Key Stage One
In Key Stage One we follow a creative curriculum using continuous provision; building on skills developed in the EYFS. The majority of our learning is play based; however adult led activities are used to develop learners’ skills, knowledge and understanding across the curriculum.
We follow the National Curriculum requirements for KS1, adapting this to the needs of our learners through a creative and flexible curriculum. English, Mathematics and Phonics are taught each morning. The Foundation Subjects are taught through a topic based curriculum focusing on one main subject every half term. We enhance the continuous provision based on the topic to have a greater impact on learning.
Learners have access to their base class, shared area and other KS1 classroom. This encourages independence, social skills and interactions across the year group. Staff are able to promote these skills and tailor learning to the learner’s individual needs.
Our Key Stage One teachers are Helen Cardwell and Joanna Woofe.
