In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Reception Class our curriculum is based firmly on the Early Years Foundation Stage, Development Matters. We focus on learning through continuous provision and play and use the learner’s preferences to help them to develop their individual skills. The development Matters consists on seven areas of learning which are:
The Prime subject areas;
◦Personal, Social and Emotional Development
◦Communication and Language
And the Specific subject areas:
◦Understanding of the world
◦Expressive Arts and Design
Our Early years class is highly resourced and learners have continuous access to the different resources set up in our different areas of learning in both our indoor and outdoor classroom, an example of some of the areas of learning that we can access are as follows:
Sand & Water area
Construction & Small world area.
As well as an exciting and engaging learning journey within school we also experience learning outside of school. We attend weekly swimming sessions at Hope Schools Hydro pool, were we gain and build on our confidence in the water and then develop our independent swimming skills. Weekly visits to different environments within the local area. Each term we also attend class trips for enrichment and first hand experiences.
I hope this has given you an insight into our Early Years Reception class.
