SCIENCE

Bringing Learning to Life through ScienceSCIENCE, it’s like MAGIC, but REAL….At Landgate School, our Science curriculum Is delivered in a way that seeks to engage learners and encourage investigation, experimentation, explanation and evaluation at a level appropriate to each individual. The Science long term plan ensures learners access opportunities for creative investigations, problem solving, practical science and lively debate. All learners are encouraged to develop and use a range of skills including observations, planning and investigations, as well as being encouraged to question the world around them and become independent learners in exploring possible answers for their scientific based questions.

As learners develop their scientific skills, knowledge and understanding, they are provided with STEM experiences which make connections to other curriculum areas including Technology, Engineering and Maths. Scientific enquiry skills and scientific vocabulary are embedded in each topic throughout a progressive science curriculum.  We aim to inspire learners to develop an enquiring mind about the world, challenge their assumptions and support them to meet personal and aspiring targets. The Science curriculum at Landgate is heavily supported with enrichment activities such as access to Tread, trips and theme days. Experiences such as these are woven throughout the school year to develop the awe and wonder associated with scientific discovery and provide opportunities to develop and enhance the cultural capital that science provides.

Our aim is to provide all children a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge to help them to think scientifically, to gain an understanding of scientific processes and also an understanding of the uses and implications of Science, today and for the future. At Landgate School, we are all scientists! Through our high-quality science curriculum, we aim to provide the important foundations for children to confidently explore and understand their world and their place within it.

In the words of Albert Einstein “The important thing is to never stop questioning”.
