- Expressive Arts and Design
Our intent is that learners will receive a full and holistic curriculum throughout their time in Reception. Our curriculum is focused on ensuring that all learners are given the means and opportunity to flourish and grow to reach their full potential whilst receiving opportunities to work towards the Early Learning Goals. At Landgate our EYFS learning environment, continuous provision and activities are devised to meet the needs of each individual learner. Each learner has targets set for each of the seven areas of learning, these individual learner targets are evaluated and updated every half term.
The curriculum is a balance of important festivals, local history, cultural experiences and following the learner’s interests. At Landgate we follow our learner’s interests as much as possible however we also aim to expose learners to a vast range of topics and themes to further their interests, provide experiences and exposure to topics they may not have had access to previously.
Our environment is designed to promote play based learning through continuous provision and development through focused, adult let activities. Throughout the year, the learners will learn through a variety of adult-led and child-initiated experiences, which will provide them with opportunities to explore the Characteristics of Effective Learning. Learners are encouraged to be independent in their learning, with adults facilitating as required. We endeavour to provide first-hand experiences which make our curriculum purposeful and relevant. Every learner is recognised and celebrated as a unique individual.
We aim to develop social skills whilst providing opportunities to practise them in a safe and nurturing environment, encouraging positive relationships with peers and adults alike. Whilst in reception we aim to open our learner’s eyes to the world beyond their immediate environment, enabling our learners from an early age to be curious, creative, resilient, adventurous and to live happy, healthy and productive lives.
