At Landgate, reading is the golden thread that connects all aspects of our learners' development. It is central to our curriculum and embedded in every part of school life. We nurture a love for reading and ensure our learners develop essential skills through purposeful and engaging experiences.

We deliver reading through a variety of approaches and spaces designed to inspire and support learners. These include our Reading Lodge, corridor library, and well-equipped reading spaces and libraries in every classroom. Reading is seamlessly integrated into our Connected Curriculum, where learners read for skill, knowledge, and pleasure. Books are also available during lunchtimes, offering a calming activity and additional opportunities to engage with texts.

Our woodland curriculum (TREAD) takes reading into the great outdoors, where learners explore and bring texts to life in an outdoor environment. This immersive approach deepens understanding and sparks creativity.

Reading is taught systematically through our phonics programme and the English curriculum. Teachers bring books to life through practical and memorable learning opportunities, such as educational visits, storytelling sessions, Drawing Club, puppets, music, videos, tough trays, and creative displays like washing lines filled with story elements.

Our commitment to fostering a love of reading extends beyond structured lessons. We encourage learners to explore books that spark their curiosity, expand their imagination, and build confidence.
